Here's Gibson's flag ship from 1981. The Super 400 has a 18" lower bout, 3 3/8 deep body. Oversized headstock, solid spruce top, solid maple sides and back. It all high end with high quality craftsmanship with the fattest sound you can get. This guitar was stamped "second" at the factory on the headstock. Although you can't see why, there's story behind that. Gibson in order to compete with the Japan imports needed to lower there prices. One way to do that was to label some stock as seconds, therefore still keeping some at the higher price.
