I started the lessons and watched the supplemental DVD and want to try that pick holder. I try putting the pick between my fingers and it just ends up on the floor.

I am talking about the one he has stuck on the top of his guitar's body above the strings. Looks pretty convenient.

Thanks,
Barry

It's just a spring from the hardware store hot glued to the guitar. The glue hasn't hurt any guitar yet,it doesn't get hot enough. I don't have it on any guitar currently but miss it and want to add it again

I've got a couple of students who use BluTack to do this. Palming the pick is just about practicing the technique. Something you can do on the bus or watching TV. Just keep turning the pick over and over - move it into playing position - turn it over in your fingers again - palm it - turn it over and get it into playing position.

I use the same technique for holding the pick as Rich teaches - side of the index finger, under the thumb, pretty much between the lined up finger/thumb nails. I play every day for hours teaching and the like - I only drop a pick about 3 or 4 times a year. Getting familiar with the basic hold and turning it over in your fingers is what's needed.

I thought you were sliding it between 2 fingers when not using it. Palming it sounds like you are sliding it down to your palm and 'grabbing' it in the palm. Is that what you're talking about?

Don't worry - I can't get into that palming thing either. But I also can't get into using a tremelo arm as well, after 50 years of playing. I was very 'equipment-deprived' as a player when young (haha).
