I was wondering if some of you could share your insights as to what guitar strings and gauges you find work the best on your individual boxes. I've only purchased a Jazz guitar recently and tried D'Addario 13's but they don't seem to be working for me. Also I'm not a fan of the flatwound types.

I'm sort of leaning towards something warm sounding and light in my playing.

Flatwounds will give you a warmer sound. If you don't like flat wounds, you can try half rounds, they will sound warmer than round wounds. THere are a lot of jazz players who use roundwound strings too though. They will just sound brighter than flat wounds. Try .012s if you don't like the 13s. I use D'addario chrome 12s and also use Tomastics (George Benson) flatwounds. They are really good, but hard to find. They make a roundwound jazz string as well.

I couldn't get on with flatwounds at all, felt horrible. Nor could I get on with heavy guage strings even though jazz guitarists say you need to use 13s upwards. Actually you don't and I tend to use Ernie Ball medium guage Slinky strings, roundwound 10 guage. Very nice.
