Hi -

Well, title is self explanatory. I had an Ibanez Artcore, could not afford a Hofner so went for a pickup upgrade: purchased a pair of Benedetto's A6 humbuckers, had them installed.

Anyone else hace tried them? opinions? You know, I was after Gibson Classic 57s, but music store was out of stock so I had to settle with the A6's. Anyway, expect to hear the guitar on youtube, as I'll be doing videos of me playing GC jazz/blues tunes soon.

Oh by the way, what's better for jazz tone, 250K or 500K pots?

Peace,
Renzo Calcagno.

Not sure - check out the Stew Mac site for spares and tips or Seymour Duncan on the pots resistance. But I guess I'm not one to use the tone controls much, usually going for EQ on the amp rather than 'choking' the guitar output. I'd be happy with a guitar with just volume controls - or no controls and a foot volume pedal.

Most jazz players are more treble than you'd guess. Just try listening to some CDs and just concentrate on the tones. Using the tone control, if you play with others, is also going to sink you back into the mix. If you look around you'll find jazz players using just about every combination of PUs available - Stern on a Tele with 'rails' through to neck humbuckers of Herb Ellis' E165, and all stops in between.
