Thirds are an important exercise for everyone to master. Work through all shapes, best learned in this order E, G, D, A & C. The goal is to be comfortable and skilled within a scale shape so when you solo using scales they won't sound like scales. Learning all the shapes will enable you to maneuver the entire fretboard so you're not locked in to one particular shape of key.
